Day 2: Process & Change

2

💡 Today's 5 Core Techniques

Impact Analysis

Before any change is approved, you must evaluate its effect on scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk. This is always your FIRST step before submitting to the CCB.

Change Control Board (CCB)

A formal group that reviews, approves, or rejects changes to project baselines. The PM provides the impact data — the CCB makes the final decision on baselines.

WBS Decomposition

Breaking down high-level deliverables into smaller, manageable work packages. The golden rule: If it is not in the WBS, it is not in the project scope.

Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)

A document that links each requirement to its source and the deliverable that satisfies it. It ensures every requirement has business value and is actually built.

Gold Plating vs Scope Creep

Gold Plating = team adds unrequested features (bad). Scope Creep = client adds features without formal process (also bad). Both bypass the change control process.

Practice Scenarios
